P.phoebus Jewelry · Material Standards

What we make things from — and why it matters.

Every material decision at P.phoebus starts with the same question: would we be comfortable telling a customer exactly what this is made of? If the answer is anything less than yes — we don't use it.

Here is exactly what goes into our jewelry, and why we chose it.

18K Gold Plating

All P.phoebus pieces are finished with 18K gold plating — a layer of real gold bonded to a carefully selected base metal through an electroplating process. 18K gold (75% pure gold) gives the warmth and richness of fine jewelry without the cost of solid gold construction.

The thickness of the gold layer determines how long the finish lasts. We plate to a higher micron count than standard fashion jewelry, which is why our pieces hold their color longer under daily wear conditions.

Base Metals — Brass & Stainless Steel

Beneath the gold, we use brass or stainless steel depending on the piece. Both are industry-standard choices for quality fashion jewelry — selected for structural integrity, weight, and skin compatibility.

Brass gives pieces their satisfying weight and holds complex shapes precisely — ideal for earrings, pendants, and anything with detailed structure.

Stainless steel offers additional corrosion resistance and is particularly well-suited for pieces worn close to the skin over long periods.

Nickel-Free. Always.

Nickel is the leading cause of contact dermatitis from jewelry — a skin reaction that affects a significant portion of the population, more common in women than men. We do not use nickel in our plating process or our base metals.

This is not a marketing claim. It is a material specification that we hold to across every piece in every collection. If you have a history of reactions to fashion jewelry, this is one of the first questions to ask — and our answer is always the same.

Stone Setting — Pavé & Bezel

We work with two setting methods, chosen based on what best serves the design.

Pavé setting — small stones set close together with minimal metal showing between them, creating a continuous surface of light. The name comes from the French word for "paved." It's a technique that requires precision: the stones must be uniform, the prongs exact, the spacing consistent. Done well, it catches light from across a room.

Bezel setting — a thin rim of metal wraps around the edge of the stone, securing it completely. More protective than prong setting, cleaner in profile. The stone sits flush and secure — ideal for pieces worn every day.

Crafted in Korea

Our pieces are manufactured in Korea — not as a cost decision, but as a quality one. Korean jewelry manufacturing operates at a precision standard that is difficult to match elsewhere: the consistency of the plating, the exactness of the setting, the quality of the finish on surfaces that will never be photographed.

We have worked with the same production partners since our founding in 2012. That continuity is intentional. It means every new collection is made by people who understand exactly what P.phoebus jewelry is supposed to feel like.
